Wyland - 'Nowhere Now'

New Jersey-based indie rock band Wyland, release a passionate cut of alt rock on ‘Nowhere Now’, the first track released from their forthcoming EP, due out in early 2019.

If you look back on Wyland’s discography over the last couple of years, you can hear an exciting new determination and a bolder progression of sound via new single, ‘Nowhere Near’ which provides an interesting indication of what to potentially expect from their upcoming EP. ‘Nowhere Now’ sees the band striking with a new sense of purpose and immediacy and the band waste no time in getting that across with its anthemic Kings of Leon-influenced opening.

In fact, what Wyland have done here is created a full sound that feels really familiar in so many, ways without feeling recycled or too nostalgic. I was reminded of U2 at some of the looser guitar and percussion driven parts, giving me that cliche feeling of, “this is the perfect song to go on a lonely night time drive to”. But cliche feelings aren’t so bad because lonely night time drives are some of the best moments to process your feelings and that’s what ‘Nowhere Now’ makes you want to do.

As the track kicks things up a notch for the urgent alt rock chorus, band’s like Nada Surf during the ‘Always Love’ phase spring to mind. Wyland are showing here that they are great at combining thrilling melodies with big waves of emotion which come crashing down on its listener in a really cathartic way. There’s definitely a lot of fire in these guys hearts that hopefully won’t be burning out anytime soon.
