Jade Bird - 'Love has all been done before'
Jade Bird has one of those voices that after being heard just once, it is impossible to forget. From the distinct annunciation to sheer power, that at first comes as a surprise, there is a timelessness about her.
Following on from ‘Uh Huh’ that in her own words is an ‘alternative banger’, Jade Bird is back with another banger in the form of ‘Love Has All Been Done Before’ which has been a part of her live performance for quite some time now. When I saw her at All Points East, earlier in the year, I was quite taken aback by the charisma and old-school charm that came across as the song develops. It’s nice to hear that the raw character of that performance is still detectable in the studio recording – which I think has something to do with the power and raspy quality of Jade’s voice.
‘Love Has All Been Done Before’ is a little bit country, a little bit pop, and a whole lot of swagger. “It doesn’t help that you mean well, as if the devil’s in your detail and I’m trying not to raise hell” is just a snippet of some of the cunning that comes from her quick-wit lyricism which is increasingly becoming one of her defining qualities as a singer-songwriter. It is no secret that Jade is working on an album at the moment and with all of the singles that have been released so far, it’s definitely going to be one to look out for.
