State Wild - 'Up In Space'

London-based three-piece State Wild take us light-years away on their debut single, ‘Up In Space’.

Originally hailing from the North West of the UK, State Wild make their debut by showcasing a mature sound meticulously crafted. While the band have been hidden away writing a whole album’s worth of material, they’ve also been out on the live circuit and played some gigs such as O2 Islington, The Water Rats, The Fiddlers Elbow Camden, and the club Embargo just to name a few. These guys realise that even though the way we listen to and discover new music has changed, arguably becoming more impersonal with more focus on playlists, throwing yourself into live shows is still the best way to get your name out there and for audiences to see your energy and ethos.

With this knowledge in mind, it comes as no surprise that the band are sharing their debut single alongside a performance video, which not only shows how much thought has gone into this debut, but adds another layer of intrigue and excitement to the track. Everything about ‘Up In Space’ is stimulating and engaging in an incredibly no frills way yet aesthetically pleasing way. In combination, Beorn’s emotive vocals, Tom’s vibrant guitar riffs and Mat’s distinctive bass guitar fused with synthesisers creates an affecting and emotional soundscape, as the band apply mesmerising electro, pop and rock textures with a familiarity that feels like we have known them forever, without losing a keen sense of identity.

Thematically, the band explains the track is about, “ Two very different worlds coming together. The unknown being something to see as a wonder and not a threat. But there is a fine balance which is depicted by bringing this concept into the way we are in relationships too. How two people can be so close and in love but their two worlds can be so different. At times held together by the smallest of strands”.

’Up In Space’ is a song that encourages its listener to connect emotionally, as well as entertains and it is immersive in its execution. The atmosphere broods and teases with an hypnotic appeal, showing a band fully in control of their sound, before kicking things up a little bit for an impressive climax, which shows off the vocal to its full appeal. ‘Up In Space’ is a very polished introduction to a band who very much knows who they are. Imagine Dragons fans will love these guys.
