The Band Explains: Derange - 'Runaway' (Video)
Heavy alternative rockers Derange have released a tongue-in-check style slasher movie video for their band new single ‘Runaway’. They band took a moment to talk to us about the visuals in more detail.
Where was the video filmed?
The video was filmed in an abandoned building in East London. We were so happy to find the location as it was perfect for the video.
How does the video compliment the song?
Our director loved the pace of the song and instantly though about the 80’s slash horror vibe which worked super well! We were very inspired by that era for our new songs so we just went with it!
Any behind the scenes stories?
Oh our director almost died.....let me explain....
The building was awesome to work in but it was decaying slowly. So in once scene while we were being directed, he was standing on a wood board apparently covering a hole in the ground and suddenly we hear a crack and his foot goes through! The whole crew gasped! Luckily he’s alive and healthy haha!
Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used? What is the message of the video trying to convey?
The song is involved around being involved with someone manipulative who strips you from yourself, sort of like a predator. The relationship becomes so unpleasant and toxic bag it almost becomes a horror film to you. We wanted to create something we haven’t tried before and give the video a humorous vibe. We inspired ourselves in films like Evil Dead and The Shining But we didn’t want it to be taken seriously, that’s what makes the video so cool!
