The new Asylums album 'Alien Human Emotions' is out this week, Luke Branch from the band talks to us about modern Berlin and David Lynch films ahead of it's release.

Who are you top three musical inspirations and why
Seeing as the other boys are not answering these questions I'll say that its them.
Jazz is an awesome sonic experimenter and great wing man throughout the creative process, we rarely discuss things we just use introvert telepathy to communicate.

Henry and Mike often come in a little later in the creative process, Mike has instinctive way of adding more swagger to a song.....its just the way he is in life...chatting to strangers and bringing the banter. Henry is a quality control man, blunt as a spoon and if the songs I deliver are not up to scratch he will tell me, you need that.

Together they are the best rhythm section around, tight and loose at the same time.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
I can relate to Blue Velvet, I'm definitely looking for the mysteries in life. Its a world to escape into like all Lynch's films, I like to spend time in that film.
At the moment I'm also really inspired by B Movie Horror, so many classics of the genre were completed with tiny budgets against all the odds......so it reminds me of being in Asylums.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
I love the Berlin of today, I have been twice. The new architecture, the mix of cultural influences and musical underground.

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
Out side of my immediate clique it changes regularly, I find a subject then obsessively research their lives....I've done it since I was a kid when I fell in love with Picassos work.
I really love my creative friends the most, they inspire me to dig deeper with my own work and make me feel supported along the way......so everyone at Cool Thing Records.

How would you like to inspire people
To spread a positive message about creative work and how healing it can be. I've found the best way to create is live, and the best way to live is create.
