Dead Naked Hippies - 'Rare'

unnamed-29.png

The art punk trio from Leeds, Dead Naked Hippies, have unleashed a boisterous new single out into the world. ‘Rare’ is all swagger and Dead Naked Hippies grab you by the guts as a yo-yo tied to their string of words. And they come out swinging.

Chaos ensues in the soundscape created by Joe Clarke’s guitar which teeters between funky/thrash riffs that you would find in a Royal Blood song, and the off-set discord that is signature of Queens of the Stone Age. Throw in frontwoman Lucy Jowett’s piercing vocals that find the perfect shiver-inducing balance between screeching punk power and a breathy whisper and you are almost relieved by the security of Jacob Marston’s drumming, that holds it all together.

Speaking of ‘Rare’ Lucy Jowett explains; “It is a song about self-love. I think we’re quick to judge the term and deem it laughable or irrelevant in fear of being arrogant, or weird.” Sometimes you need a bit of weird to explain parts of yourself, that you struggle to understand and ‘Rare’ definitely takes you one step closer into finding that place.
