Manchester indie-pop quartet Corella send out on urgent plea for honesty on their new single, ‘Let On’.

There’s a lot to be said about Corella’s new single ‘Let On’ that channels a 00s post punk revival sound , especially drawing comparisons to Editors’ ‘Munich’. But familiarity isn’t always a bad thing, it makes a song instantly accessible and arguably this is Corella’s most boldly executed song to date. ‘Let On’ opens with a seriousness that doesn’t detract from its enjoyment. It’s uptempo and driven indie pop with a purpose, balancing brooding textures with shimmering, ethereal touches that adds a lighter aesthetic over the song’s moody, chiming guitars and pulsating drum rhythms thanks to Ben Henderson (Bass & Vocals) Jack Taylor (Guitar) and James Fawcett (Drums).

Lead Singer Joel Smith’s brooding indie vocal has a warmth to it that adds a layer of safety and optimism to the darkly anthemic qualities of the song, as he implores for answers and clarity on another person’s feelings, poignantly adding, “It’s a cold world, you’re a fire’. There’s a power behind the emotion on the track’s lyrical theme but the emotion is delivered with a charisma and passion that feels invigorating as opposed to defeating. ‘Let On’ is a nice reminder not to bottle up your feelings, for both your own sake and the people around you, executed in a way you can dance and scream out your frustrations. Corella are definitely a band to keep an eye on this year.
