The Artist Explains: Saturated - 'Metal On My Feet'

Hip Hop artist Saturated talks to us in depth about his powerful single and music video, ‘Metal On My Feet’ which is a dark, gripping tale of reflection, loss, and self destruction.

Where was the video for 'Metal On My Feet' filmed?
We filmed over two days at separate locations. The gas station scene was filmed on the westside of Atlanta, (Bankhead). The abandoned hospital scene was filmed at “JF Brick Studios”, a dope location on the Nawfside of the city.

How does the video connect with the song?
’Metal On My Feet’ is a deep song. And while it's one thing to verbally hear someone rap about dealing with insomnia, depression, and other inner demons…It's a whole different thing to literally see them surrounded by flames telling you about their own personal hell. I needed people to know I’m not just saying stuff that rhymes. In regards to the cinematography I thought the chilling atmosphere felt just right with Spanish guitars playing in the background. Shout out Calvin D for being a beast putting the whole thing together.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
I watched nothing but Billie Eilish videos the week of filming so I could get in my acting zone! She’s a big inspiration for me. Also, during one of the scenes we were filming, I was sure one of the smoke bombs on set was going to kill me. Seriously. We lit the smoke bomb to close where I was performing and every time I opened my mouth to rap, my lungs got filled with smoke. I tried to keep going but I was literally suffocating and spent the next 15 minutes trying to find oxygen.

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
’Metal On My Feet’ explores love, hate, loss and pain. But more than anything I would say the main theme of this record is the “self”. The fight with yourself to keep going when you feel worthless or weighed down to keep moving forward. The fight to keep living even though “life’s a bitch, I wish that she would leave me sometimes, ain't that sick?”. You have to want that for yourself. That's why you see me rapping to myself in an empty room, no extra people, no one else to blame, just me and my inner demons.

What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
I hope people see this video and think it’s the dopest thing they ever saw. Then I hope they see a man who’s really dealt with all the things he rapped about and know they can make it through as well. That's it.
