Introducing #0097 - Pint + Blister
Let us introduce you to the newest racket coming out of Chester, punk three piece Pint + Blister. They took a moment to talk about their new track ‘Angry Machine’, and the things they like to do in their home town.
Where does the name Pint + Blister come from?
The name originates from mishearing the word bifter (slang for cigarette). A friend then said "Going for a pint and blister" and it stuck in Matt's head. Whilst deciding on naming the band that was the only name that was completely original and had no association with any other band.
How did the band come into being?
It began as punk covers project called 'Sockets' early 2018 consisting of Matt (guitar/vocals) and Josh (drums). We then started playing original material and then Nathan joined early 2019 and PINT+BLISTER came into being.
How would you describe your sound in one sentence?
Loud, noisy, sweaty rock n' roll played with passion and attitude - no bull shit allowed.
What bands or artists do you draw on for inspiration?
The White Stripes and Slaves are two bands we collectively draw inspiration from, as well as most punk bands from the 70s such as Sex Pistols and The Fall; and newer bands including Sleaford Mods, IDLES, Shame and LIFE. Individually, our influences range from Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Nick Cave, Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines DC, as well as many others. Basically any guitar band worth listening to.
Your new track ‘Angry Machine’ is out now, can you tell what the track is about?
Our new and debut single 'ANGRY MACHINE' was written in the spur of the moment. Matt got the riffs and lyrics written in ten minutes. It was jammed a couple of times with Josh on drums, then Nathan added an extra layer of intensity and attitude with the unfiltered attack of noise. Lyrically, it was a couple of lines that sounded good and suited the music perfectly. There are only three lines: "You've got a face on me - I need the space to bleed", "You fell from grace into the wrong place" and "You're an angry machine". We were going for the interesting contradictions as well as keeping it simple as Ramones or Iggy Pop would.
Where was the track recorded?
The track was recorded through our own BED+SHED RECORDS. It's a bit of an in joke, but the drums were recorded in basically what is a shed, whilst the guitars and vocals were recorded in Nathan's bedroom.
You are based in the area of Chester, where do you like to go to discover new music? Or even go for a pint?
Best places for a bev and live music are Telford's Warehouse, Alexander's Live and The Live Rooms. Plenty of places put on acoustic acts too. Restless Bear Promotions is a fairly new promotion company that brings a lot of garage bands to the local area. They are always great, so if you see anything to do with them, then you need to check it out.
Now the track is out there, what next?
Now 'Angry Machine' is out, we have a couple of other songs to release in the near future (before Christmas). Then simply keep gigging and recording as much as we possibly can.
