Elkvilla - 'The Cold Will Keep You Here'

Elkvilla combines acoustic, folk and post rock influences to create a shivering look at at a dead end relationship on poignant and poetic single, ‘The Cold Will Keep You Here’.

Elkvilla combines wintery, isolated, acoustic textures with the lullaby lull of post rock influences on ‘The Cold Will Keep You Here’ which marks his third self produced track. It’s a gentle song with a hugely poetic and bittersweet heart. In terms of instrumentation, at its most expansive, ‘The Cold Will Keep You Here’ swoops in with a Sigur Ros-esque brilliance, weaving catharsis and uplifting melodic textures through a brooding, urgent tones familiar to The National, but vocally Elkvilla channels a sweet, sorrowful tone and attentive lyrics reminiscent of Elliott Smith.

On the track Elkvilla explains, ‘The cold will keep you here’ is ”A story of staying together out of sake of routine - a lie you tell each other to stay warm in each others company during the winter”. A wistful and heart-wrenching look at co-existing in a romantic vacuum that leaves its listener feeling the nip not only from winter’s chill…
