Let us introduce you to The Mos Capri Experiment, who has just released her debut track ‘Tug Of War’. She took a moment to talk to us about her creative process and how the track came together.

Your track ‘Tug Of War’ is out now, what is the track about?
‘Tug of War’ is about  being extremely scared by your own feelings and reluctant to open the doors and look at the past. I spent most of my teens trying to avoid and distract myself from things that were difficult to face and ended up getting stuck in a lot of self-destructive patterns.

Where was the track recorded?
It was recorded in Sacha's studio - Eastcote studios in West London.

It was produced by two-time winner and Grammy nominated producer Sacha Skarbek, who has worked with the like of Miley Cyrus and James Blunt. How did that partnership come about? And how did it feel to be working with someone who has worked with some amazing artists in the past?
Sacha and I had written together once or twice last year when I was in sessions almost everyday. I then took a long break because I was super confused about what music I wanted to make. I wrote on my own again for a few months and overtime ended up writing a collection of new songs that I felt represented me perfectly. I needed help with production and reached out because we had previously worked so well together. I went to his studio and pitched my whole concept to him thinking 'this a long shot' but he got on board and obviously saw my vision.
He's a real pro. No messing about. I'm quite direct and really value honesty and that was our dynamic - he got involved when necessary but took a back seat when I wanted to change things because the most important thing throughout the process was that the production did the song justice and met my vision. And obviously a name drop here and there was cool sometimes.

How would you describe your creative process when putting a track together?
My creative process is completely melody and lyric focused. Everything else can come after. It's been me sat at a piano, just jamming a bit to find chords that feel good and then I come up with melodies and lyrics generally come second  Weirdly with Tug of War, the verse and pre came to me almost immediately but I didn't get on board with the chorus melody for a while. I always think I can write something better but once I knew what I was gonna write about I was realised it would work.  Sounds super cliche but I ended up writing the lyrics in some dingy hotel room on Brighton Seafront. I'd say writing lyrics, especially for Tug of War, felt like some sort of grieving healing process.

Now the track is out there, what next?
Releasing the rest of the EP….
