The Artist Explains: Briston Maroney - 'Chattanooga'

Nashville based artist Briston Maroney chats to us about his exhilarating visuals for new single, ‘Chattanooga’. The video sees him time-travel from a twisted, grade school science fair to a trip skydiving in the ninth installment of his ongoing creative collaboration with director Joey Brodnax.

‘Chattanooga’ is the second track from Maroney’s double A-side Miracle Singles series – recorded in London with producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Adele) and out now via Canvasback Music/ Parlophone.

Where was the video for ‘Chattanoogra’ filmed?
The first half of the video was filmed on campus of a high school in Nashville, and the skydiving portion was filmed in the sky over Chattanooga, Tennessee!!!!!

How does the video connect with the song?
The song is about being stuck in a very mundane, normal place but still finding reasons for it to matter/be emotionally impactful on you. The video is filmed in a very plain setting and turns into something so much more than that!

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
I had gone through some big life changes at the time of filming and ended up staying awake the entire 72 hours that we filmed, including the skydiving day. It was impractical and totally worth it!

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
Hopefully it means something different to everyone, but I think the whole video captures really straight forward images in ways that prod at the idea that there can be more going on in a situation than meets the eye.

What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
I hope people are interested enough in the video to find their own connection and interpretation with it, mostly because I have no idea what its about!
