Icelandic singer- songwriter Ásgeir speaks to us about his cinematic, artistic visuals for ‘Youth’ which explores the themes of nostalgia and young love.

Where was the video for 'Youth' filmed?
It was recorded in one evening at a place called Sandvík which is about a 45 min drive from Reykjavik.

How does the video connect with the song?
The video portrays a man that is thinking about a girl that he used to be with when he was young. He misses her and is remembering the good moments of childhood.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
It was very cold and windy when it was shot and then it started raining. I was there when it was shot but stayed in my car for the most part. We rented this 1985 Cadillac for the video, and the guy that owned the car was there for the whole shoot to make sure that it wouldn’t be damaged

Can you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The imagery is quite cold, because it was cold and dark that day, but also because it was shot on a black beach in Iceland. That imagery gives away some sadness and dramatic effect. The director also worked with some blue and pink colours in post-production when the memories of the guy are exploding from his mind which I think gives a nice touch.

Is there a message ‘Youth’ is trying to convey?
I think the song/video can get people to revisit some of their good memories from childhood. The video gives the song a deeper meaning and I hope people can appreciate that.
