Inspired #70 - Naomi Banks
There is a powerful scene forming in London at the moment, with a mixture of jazz and soul, and a dash of r’n’b. With names like Rachel Chinouriri, Nia Wyn and Celeste bouncing around with fantastic tracks, and now with new track ‘Stay Away’ - Naomi Banks quite easily joins this new movement of voices. She took a moment to talk to us about all the things that inspire her.
Who are you top three musical inspirations?
Billie Holliday for her incredible story telling.
Caravan Palace because they are perfect!
Hiatus Kaiyote for how unusual their chord sequences and production are.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
No, I actually don’t really watch films or TV! I have an incredibly short attention span so I’m very annoying to watch things with.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
I have found Copenhagen the most inspiring city so far. I have loved everyone I’ve met there and always had an amazing time. It’s such a beautiful place and many wonderful musicians there.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
My Grandma, she’s bad ass.
What are the key inspirations behind the track?
This track was about a woman I was seeing earlier this year. I wrote this when it was all going really well despite my friends warning me about her. It all went completely tits up shortly after I wrote this song.
How would you like to inspire people?
By making the hedges out of Edward Scissor hands.
