Brooke Bentham – 'Perform For You'

We all know what the perfect relationship looks like. We’ve seen the movies, we’ve read the books. But what about when love isn’t all rosy cheeks and butterflies? Who talks about when love turns toxic? Brooke Bentham does, in new single, ‘Perform For You’.

Over the last two years, Brooke has gained a reputation for her exceptional songwriting skills and ‘Perform For You’ is no different. Her signature sound of hazy, reverberated guitars gives center stage to Brooke’s stormy vocals that are laced with defeat and anger as she speaks about toxic relationships and their unhealthy power dynamics - “Treat me like a helpless toy and I’ll perform for you. Tell me why you do not love me. You know I still love you, too”. It’s an internal battle, a feeling that’s hard to put into words but that Brooke has somehow managed to masterfully wrap into a song. “It’s like surrendering to something, even though you know it’s never going to work, realising you’re so dependent on someone and knowing your presence in that relationship. It’s love in the worst way”, she explains.

On 28 February 2020, Brooke is releasing her debut album ‘Everyday Nothing’. If the rest of the record lives up to its first two singles, it’s a strong contender for album of the year.
