Jools - 'Hysterical Starving Naked’
Leicester six-piece Jools bring a new wave of punk to rattle our cages on current single, ‘Hysterical Starving Naked’.
Six members in a band may seem excessive to some, especially when three of them are guitarists, but Leicester’s Jools nail it. Despite having only formed in 2018, they are unbelievably tight, and no instrument is used too little or too much. Their debut single ‘Hysterical Starving Naked’ just proves this. It begins with an unsettling intro of locomotive drumming, thundering bass and guitar squeals. The guitars then favour high and long note melodies which offer a wonderful contrast to the violent pounding of the drums, heavy basslines and barking vocals.
‘Hysterical Starving Naked’ reaches many different levels with the change in dynamics and tempo yet is still coherent. It has a similar vibe to Shame, which is not surprising considering the band inspired Jools to form. And if Jools continue to use Shame as an inspiration and stay true to their musical and social values, 2020 will surely be their year.
