Track By Track: Ellen Krauss - 'First Take'
Rising Swedish pop artist Ellen Krauss has just released her debut EP ‘First Take’, she took a moment to talk us through the five tracks.
The Wedding
The story behind this tune is rather bitter sweet. I was asked to perform at my friends' mom's wedding and I couldn’t decide on what song to sing, so I wrote my own. A couple of weeks before the wedding, I had the bride and groom sit down in my living room as I played them the song. They held hands and both burst into tears as they told me that they were gonna postpone the wedding. Later I found out that the man had cheated on the bride…
However, they did get married a year later.
The One I Love
My debut single The One I Love is an acoustic hymn about the right to openly express love, no matter shape, color or gender. At first I was a bit nervous releasing this one since not everyone around me knew about my orientation. However, I am very happy with the way it turned out.
Criminal To Love
I can’t say that this song doesn’t have anything to do with my own experiences, cuz in a way when a friend or someone in your surroundings lets you in on their situation, it kind of becomes your business anyway. This song is about destructive love. That dangerous kind and also unfair love. When you give more than you get. I guess we all like to flirt with danger, and the stuff that isn't good for us.
On The Bus
It’s not unusual to fall in love with a friend sometimes… this happens, and quite easily for me since girls often are very beautiful. I had a huge crush on this girl in High School and we took the same train to school every morning and we went to the same parties every weekend and in the end all I wanted to do was just get drunk and not think about her… easier said than done. I wrote this song out of nowhere really, while strumming my guitar, I sang the chorus and it just felt so right.
Let Me Have It
This track came to life when I was playing around on my new Strata. I remember I fell in love with the sharp sound of it and at the time I was in that ”Let Me Have It”-state of mind, where you’re just like, okay give it to me straight… Whether it’s about jealousy, talking shit or false accusations. Things that are just not right.
