Gengahr - 'Heavenly Maybe'
Delving into groovier sonic spaces, Gengahr’s latest cut is a juxtaposing expression of discontent and the downfalls of escapism. ‘Heavenly Maybe’ comes with a funk-laden oil slick of cool that oozes throughout Felix Bushe’s laments on the darker side of running away from your problems.
It is only fitting that ‘Heavenly Maybe’ is about using partying as a distraction since the head-bopping beats exude an air of optimism that is more in-your-face than the underlying influence of the lyrics. ‘Heavenly Maybe’ has an accompanying video which is the second in a series that was recorded in Berlin with David East – the first being for ‘Everything & More’ – and it is a visual actualisation of the subject they tackle within the song. Speaking of the video series, the band says: “across the two we wanted to create something which captured the thematic essence of the album as a whole whilst also allowing each song its own fitting backdrop. The song itself is essentially about going out and trying to forget about all of your troubles, and how ultimately problematic that is as a form of release.”
