The Vacant - 'Losing Sleep'

Bath based alternative rockers The Vacant share a shivering dose of alternative rock on ‘Losing Sleep’ taken from their new EP, ’What Was I Supposed To Say’.

The Vacant bring a wintry atmosphere with theme on ‘Losing Sleep’ which originally opens with a mysterious, eerie ambience as solemn guitars as the opening lyrics kick in, “She knows not what she says to me but I try to listen empathetically, I won’t be losing sleep over things that don’t mean much to me at all” carrying a sense of intrigue and maturity and showing off a charming, wistful vocal.

As the track develops, chilly chiming guitars flitter in and out of the track offering a biting, wistful atmosphere as bouyant drums cascade around cathartic vocal fillers. The Vacant have a great ear for dynamics, switching things up and pairing high energy exciting dynamics with more ominous, dramatic segments. it’s a haunting song that hooks its listener in on both its lyrical theme and it’s melodic ambient alt rock instrumental breaks.

Really impressive stuff from a DIY band who mostly record everything (minus the drums) in their bedroom. The Vacant’s new EP ‘What Was I Supposed To Say’ is out now and it is an unpredictable six track EP heavily concerned with pushing the envelope creatively and working with spaciousness and timing to effectively layer or strip back textures for ultimate dramatic affect, making its listener both think and feel.
