Liverpool’s Eyesore & The Jinx take on social media isolation via Brexit in freakish angst on their latest single ‘On an Island’.

There is nothing calming about ‘On an Island’. Eyesore & The Jinx sound like The Fall with Tourette’s in their frantic approach. The thrashing of instruments over one chord, barking chorus and quick pace rambling vocals makes Eyesore’s new single hard to miss. ‘On an Island’ represents how they, and a lot of people, feel about the current social and political climate. As vocalist Josh Miller says: “Where endorsers of teeth whitener, protein shakes and 2 for 1 cocktails are as influential as the reptiles in Westminster.” Isn’t it a sad time to be alive?

However, Eyesore & The Jinx allow us to rid this angst as we lose our shit to the two lead guitar breaks in the song: the first is a tremelo lick that makes you want to dance like an epileptic; and the second is played psychotically, choosing noise and fury over precision and prowess.

‘On an Island’ is brilliant. Through voicing the social media isolation, Eyesore & The Jinx make us feel less isolated and more in tune with what is going on and free to be and do what we want.
