The Amazons - 'Mother'

The Amazons have marked their return in some style with the release of their new single ‘Mother’.

Their first release since 2017, ‘Mother’ is taken from the follow-up to their self-titled debut album, one of my favourites of the year, with the second LP expected for release this summer.

‘Mother’ was premiered as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on Radio 1 Monday night, and is certainly a return to form for the Reading-based band. This is their longest release so far, clocking at 5:05, but it certainly doesn’t scrimp on quality with an atmospheric introduction led by a drum before a heavy guitar riff takes the lead, something the band are now renowned for.

Matt Thompson’s vocal is once again on point, and has certainly matured along with the lyrics. That isn’t to say that their previous releases weren’t lyrically satisfying, but ‘Mother’ certainly shows a new direction in the music that The Amazons want to make.

This surging anthem speaks about owning your mistakes, challenging, and defying people who judge you without admitting to their own errors as well as everything in between.

‘Mother’ has arrived ahead of their small club tour throughout February which sold out in seconds, on top of a handful of festivals, 2019 is set to be dominated by The Amazons. ‘Mother’ is available now on all major streaming platforms, with The Amazons kicking off their tour in Glasgow on February 7th.
