Venus - 'Deranged'

Venus combine punk and heavy rock influences with the positive energy of advocating women on their debut single ‘Deranged’.

Venus are a new all-girl feminist alternative rock band, and their debut single ‘Deranged’ prove they are worth a listen. The guitars are heavy, and the way that they and the bass and drums complement each other harks back to 90s alternative/grunge acts such as The Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden. The breakdown half way through the song builds up to a cool outro with simple yet powerful guitar leads by Jess Ayres and the tormented howls of vocalist Grace Kelly.

Kelly also sings “You’re built on negativity it must be hard to see”, which shows that while Venus play mean hard and heavy rock, their intentions are positive. By using the Riot Grrrl ideology, Venus want to bring more women and women’s rights into the rock music scene, and ‘Deranged’ has the potential to put any male band, who think they rock hard, to shame.
