PICNIC - 'Wishful Drinking'
PICNIC are set to delight audiences once again with their colourful, sax-driven funk-pop on their new single ‘Wishful Drinking’.
Made up of Robyn, Eddie, Danny, Olivia, Calum, Kris, and Matty, this unique seven-piece hail from Sunderland and are building a reputation as one of the brightest prospects in the North East music scene. PICNIC’s live performances have become renowned across the region, with their infectious funky sound, catchy choruses, and excitable stage presence making it a true joy to watch.
PICNIC’s appeal hasn’t gone unnoticed, seeing the band receive support from the likes of BBC 6 Music on debut single ‘Girl’s Night’ as well as playing alongside Fickle Friends and a recently announced slot with Foals for this year’s This Is Tomorrow Festival. However, PICNIC have gone through a self-proclaimed rejuvenation, removing all remnants of their back catalogue as they felt it couldn’t live up to the quality of their live show. ‘Wishful Drinking’ is the first of many new releases that will buck that trend.
Already a fan favourite, ‘Wishful Drinking’ encapsulates everything that is great about this band, bringing together their youthful vigour and charm into four minutes that you can’t help but shake your hips to. Chief songwriter Eddie Scott describes the main theme as being “regret, and drinking to forget”, trying to compensate your over-thinking with over-drinking. Though quite a dim subject matter, the excellent vocals of Robyn and the upbeat backing band masks that and makes this another solid, feel-good hit for the seven-piece.
‘Wishful Drinking’ is now available on all major streaming platforms, PICNIC will headline a sold-out show at Little Buildings on March 26th.
