Lucy Spraggan talks to us about her visuals for feel-good single ‘Lucky Stars’ seeing her take to the streets dressed as an astronaut.
’Lucky Stars’ is taken from Lucy’s fifth studio album ‘Today Was A Good Day’ which is due out on 3rd May on Cooking Vinyl, and will coincide with a UK tour which kicks off on the 2nd May in Inverness and includes a sold-out London Omeara on the 10th May.

Where was the video for ‘Lucky Stars' filmed?
It was filmed in Bolton in the UK. The town centre is filled with all kinds of eccentric people so it was somewhat hilarious to add a person in a spacesuit - some people didn’t even flinch.

How does the video connect with the song?
I came up with the idea for the video just after I’d written the song. I wanted to outline what it feels like when I’m out and about feeling anxious - it’s like I could be from out of space! But once I’m home that all changes, I feel safe and I come back down to Earth. I thank my lucky stars for my wife, who makes that possible.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
My rented spacesuit was pretty stinky!
Seemingly a lot of people had been in that suit... It was pretty unpleasant.

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
So we wanted to capture the looks of the public - it’s not every day you see an astronaut in the town centre - so we walked around capturing those moments and then the runner would have them sign a release form. I think it really adds to the authenticity of the video.

What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
I want people to see that we had a lot of fun making the video. I want people to feel happy watching it and just enjoy the song. I’ve written a lot of heavy songs with quite poignant messages, so it’s really enjoyable to have a new song that is happy go lucky.
