GURU – ‘Fixation’

More punk rock brilliance from the Brighton four-piece.

‘Fixation’ begins with a thunderous and punching intro. GURU then pull it back in the verses in favour of a clean and almost funky riff. The chorus goes back to a full force wall of chaos with a heavy tremelo picked guitar riff. The first chorus exhibits a ‘Danny Nedelko’ style ‘yada-yada’ just to get you even more pumped. What GURU have achieved with ‘Fixation’ is a cross between Gang of Four and Dick Dale, if you can imagine such a thing. It’s exhilarating, as Tommy Cherrill’s grunts and shouts on top of this, singing about “botched relationships” in the third person. It’s good to hear a contemporary punk band not go political and write about something more personal that everyone can relate.

GURU are ace, and you will certainly be fixated by them after listening to ‘Fixation’.
