The Band Explains: Broken Hands - 'Friends House'

Broken Hands chat to us about their horror-inspired visuals for electrifying alternative rock single, ‘Friend’s House’.

Where was the video for Friends House filmed?
It was filmed in Westward Ho, Devon! In a derelict/abandoned building called Seafield House. Mad place, we drove there straight from Paris too which made it even more strange...

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
Sam Kinsela (Director) asked me what the song was about and I told her we tried to talk about a false sense of security. He took that idea, ran with it to a horror based place! Stories wise, The guy who owns it was so nice but his last line before he left was, “Oh and by the way don’t use the right hand side of the building, it’s seen better days, a bit like the garden which is falling into the sea, bye!” That made me laugh, top bloke!

Can you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
I mean it’s up to the viewer to take however, but there are some definite homages to classic horror films, I’m sure people can pull them out

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?

I think we all get caught in a situation that feels safe and then looking back on those moments you realise you couldn’t of been further away from safety, a lot of time in life you get lucky and end up fine. Although sometimes it doesn’t and that’s life haha...
