The Artist Explains: Pell - 'Too Much Of A Good Thing'
Pell talks us through the creative process behind his slick single and visuals for ‘Too Much Of A Good Thing’.
Where was the video for ‘Too Much Of A Good Thing’ filmed?
The video was filmed in Mandeville, Louisiana at Fountainbleu Park and was also filmed at Fish Pot Studios in New Orleans, Louisiana.
How does the video connect with the song?
It connects with the song in showing how it can feel like it's a great thing to be in love and be super absorbed in someone else to the point you forget about everything else. That's why it moves into that dreamlike sequence at the end with me and amber in the bed. It's a symbol that we're too far gone.\
Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
It was so hot on the set that we had to keep getting patted down with Towels. My favourite part of the video shoot was having the drone above us while it was 90+ degrees outside acting like a fan. Every time the drone dropped though we got hella nervous so I just kept telling the drone director "don't let me die". Also it was funny to make small talk while filming cause it's like having a fake conversation. I wasn't saying anything funny but Amber made it seem like I was ha. Hooray for acting!
Can you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The idea of the bed being a cloud was originally inspired by the though that love is like a dream. Sometimes its not tangible but that's why it was cool we could make it exist in the physical with the bed. Plus aesthetically it looked dope.
Everything else is better when interpreted by the viewer.
Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
The only message I'm trying to convey is that of black beauty. It's just good to see something lighthearted and a bit mushy. The world needs more of that.
