Nelipot – ‘Lucy’s Better’

Aussie rock n’ roll that packs a crushing punch.

‘Lucy’s Better’ is the lastest single from Australian rock band Nelipot. Based on Central Coast, the band are inspired by the mundane. And you can tell – this is the kind of angry and energetic rock n’ roll that evolves from boredom and frustration.

Opening with power chord stabs, the chord progression is in the same vein as The White Stripe’s ‘Fell in Love with a Girl’. ‘Lucy’s Better’ immediately strikes as a classic garage rock anthem. In the chorus, the band go into half time with melodic vocals that draw you in and will get you bouncing off the walls as Nelipot go back into full time. It’s in the same ballpark as legendary Aussie proto-punk band Radio Birdman.

For any guitar enthusiasts out there, you’ll love this. There is not one but two guitar solos. The first is played through a strange effect that sounds like a wah. It could even be a bass solo. Who knows, who cares, it sounds strange and it’s cool. ‘Lucy’s Better’ ends with a classic rock n’ roll solo with fiery leads that lean towards Angus Young. It’s nothing that hasn’t been done before, but the whole point of this song is just to get you rocking out. And Nelipot nail it.

‘Lucy’s Better’ is a proper rock n’ roll anthem.  If Nelipot keep this up, they can be one of the next ‘great’ bands to come out of Australia and follow in the footsteps of AC/DC, The Vines and Wolfmother.
