Inspired #0047 - Dylan LeBlanc
Dylan LeBlanc hits the UK this September for a small run of shows, including a headline show at London’s Omeara. He took a moment to talk to us about all the things that inspire him.
Who are you top three musical inspirations?
Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Neil young.
All three very different songwriters but have a way of
Cutting to the core of a subject in a magical way. Leaving mystery and room for critical
Thinking. All thought provoking writers with a keen sense of imagery and poetry combined that has always drug me in each and every time I listen.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
So many films. What’s eating Gilbert grape is still a top favorite because of how it deals with each characters emotion and how each character has a story to tell but in a less direct way. You just sort of watch them all fall apart and find there way back together again. Even as they go their own way.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
New Orleans. So many lives lived and lost and the sacredness of the history kept locked away. The matter their has a memory in each cemetery and brick wall. Every step has a story of the ones who have walked before in sadness, joy and beautiful perplexity. The way the Mississippi runs along the city. Threatening to take everyone under but how the community.
Still seems to thrive and be careless even at the brink of peril every season. I just think it’s magical. The sinister energy that also creates the vibrant electricity that binds everyone together. The lost faces of people who go there to disappear from days of sadness gone by. The natives who hustle from day to day to find a dollar reach their pockets. The thieves, the Rich all mingle in the same places all looking for escape from something. I suppose that’s why I’ve spent my time their. To find escape from something that aches on the inside.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Anyone who can be completely and unabashedly themselves in a world where the gate is always locked and the guard is always up.
How would you like to inspire people?
To not be afraid to be who they are and try new things. To never let fear stand in the way of anything.
