Big Still - 'All Your Light'
Bathe in the glow of Big Still’s ‘All Your Light’ taken from their new 12-track Americana-tinged rock and rock album ‘Sleeper’.
After a five year hiatus San Francisco outfit Big Still have returned with their second album, ‘Sleeper’ a big record bursting with thoughtful folk rock tunes. ‘All Your Light’ is the album’s closing track and wraps up what the record wonderfully opening with dusty guitar arrangements and solid driven percussion, seeing Spencer Potter’s smooth vocal land with a captivating ease reminiscent of Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard.
‘All Your Life’ embraces a hazy indie rock sound, compelling its listener with its dreamy ambience, but it also digs deep into a rootsy folk danceability that feels uplifting and cheerful, adding a gorgeous fluidity and freedom to its weighty rhythms. Thematically, ‘All Your Light’ is a poignant single that ultimately reflects on the things we take for granted, the natural instinct to run from our problems, the addictions we feed, and the despondency we feel.
On the album as a whole the band explains, ‘Sleeper’ is “Inspired by and dedicated to songwriter Spencer Potter's first child, the record is a 12-song reflection on childhood, change, and how time rolls on in a quiet circle while we ride along with our loved ones, sometimes falling asleep along the way.”
A lovely reminder to let the light in and harness our own power.
