The Artist Explains: Kev Minney - 'Magic'
Brighton-based singer-songwriter Kev Minney talks to us about his mysterious music video for powerful single, ‘Magic’ the third single taking from the album ‘Modern Stories’.
Where was the video for 'Magic' filmed?
The video was filmed in Brighton and in Worthing. Myself and Chip the camera man went down to the beach at 6am in the middle of January; it was bloody freezing.
How does the video connect with the song?
The song ‘Magic’ is a dream-like song that touches on belief and the beyond. The video highlights moments of someone’s journey when following something that may not be there, only to realise that everything was already around them.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
I had to borrow Chip’s coat as I was freezing cold. Luckily for me, Chip doesn’t feel the cold, I think it’s because he is from Worthing.
Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
For the middle 8 part we wanted to make it look dreamy and heavenly. So getting up very early and catching the morning sun was a big part of that. We also wanted to show a rough and ready side, and that’s why we choose a part of town with a lot of graffiti around.
What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
Like always, I’m happy if the song makes the listening feel something.
