The Artist Explains: Patrick Martin - 'Both Of You'
US artist Patrick Martin has just released his addictive new pop track ‘Both Of You’, the track sees him kicking off his partnership with British producer Kid Harpoon. He took a moment to talk to us about the track.
Your track 'Both of You' is out now, what is the meaning behind the title? What is the inspiration behind the song?
I wrote this song with Kid Harpoon and Jesse Mason and it was inspired by an ordeal having to do with my best friend, his roommate, and his roommates girlfriend. I can’t share any of the juicy details, but if you listen to the lyrics you’ll be able to pick up on what went down. A kid lost his close friend and girlfriend in one moment, hence the title “Both Of You”.
Where was the track recorded? Are there any behind the scenes stories you are happy to share with us?
We recorded the track at Kid Harpoons studio in Los Angeles. This was my first time working with him and we really clicked right off the bat. This song came quickly out of one session and then Kid Harpoon ran with it and turned it into what you hear now.
What do you hope your listeners take from the song?
I hope it’s something they feel they can sing along to after one listen. It’s an emotional song, but I definitely want people moving their feet when they hear it. One of those things where they know the melodies first and then realize later that it’s a really sad song.
The track comes with some quirky visuals, can you explain the inspiration for the video?
The Beatles are my hero’s and they never took themselves seriously. It’s really easy to get caught up in trying to act like a “rockstar” and have this cool facade all the time.
Now the track is out there, what next? What are your plans for the next few months?
Play this song and the rest of my music to as many crowds as I can. I have an EP coming in November and I’ll also be on tour in the UK with Kodaline starting in November. I can’t wait to share all the music I’ve been writing with the world.
