The Artist Explains: MEYY - 'Angelic Lies'
Singer and producer MEYY speaks to us about her aesthetically pleasing visuals for sultry neo soul and rnb infused, brooding pop single, ‘Angelic Lies’ which explores the highs and lows of a relationship.
The video connects to the song in various symbolism. For example in the beginning of the clip, you see me carrying these huge bags that carry the white cloths. These white cloths reappear throughout the entire video and they represent the “dirty laundry” of the relationship that i had to carry and that (just like in the video) was always present in the scenery of our love story. The clean fresh white of the cloths also refer to the ‘angelic’ part of the relationship and to the song title. Throughout the clip there are elements of love and happiness but also of fighting and hurting. I feel like the sensuality and tension there is between two lovers, is well portrayed in the bedroom scenes with the deep red tones and gloomy shots. The title shot with the roses on fire and my singing into a broken mirror both represent the love that went bad, toxic. The love literally and symbolically shattered into pieces. On set I feel like we all had the best time. As it was my debut-videoclip, everything was very new and kind of overwhelming. I loved the energy during those two days on set, everybody was driven and focused but yet kind and chill. I was lucky that such a beautiful team wanted to put their effort and talents in this clip. I hope people take away the pure and mesmerizing aesthetics of the video. I am really proud and thankful for the ‘Angelic Lies’ music video and I hope that this is only the beginning.
