Inspired #80 - Jordan Mackampa — When The Horn Blows

Jordan Mackampa releases the latest cut from his album ‘Foreigner’ due out in March, fusing together love-drunk-samba dance grooves with his unique soul vocals with new single ‘Magic’. He took a moment to talk to us about the track and the inspirations behind it.

Who are your top three musical inspirations?
It varies but in terms of bands, Coldplay, Bombay Bicycle Club & Young The Giant, non bands probably Stevie Wonder, Matt Corby and Lianne La Havas - all for different reasons but mainly because they draw emotion and melody very well.

Is there a certain film that inspires you?
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - I’ve been trying to master the perfect dance routine for Dance Dance Revolution for years.

What city do you find the most inspiring?
I was inspired by New Orleans when I visited for first time in October, I got a tarot reading which kinda changed my life.

Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, two words, Gun. Show.

What were your inspirations when writing the track?
I was in one of the moods where I got a taste of what life could be like with someone and wanted more & more.

How would you like to inspire people?
By being my unapologetically Black carefree self.
