Tuarrah - 'Palimpsest'

Following in the footsteps of ‘Almost Invisible’ and ‘Rhinebeck’, ‘Palimpsest’ is the dreamy third song to be taken from Tuarrah’s upcoming record, ‘Lying on Our Backs’ due for release this month.

Mixed by  Andy Baldwin (Björk, Haerts, St. Lucia). ‘Palimpsest’ unleashes a maelstrom of magical downtempo, trip-hop-esque sounds comprised of airy rolling percussion, sloping guitars, ethereal strings and plonky keys, seeing the song buzz with spirituality and smouldering, smoky tones. Tuarrah’s vocal is intimate and instantly captivating as she takes her listener through curious, thought provoking lyrics, “the layers peel off, leaving a mess, shedding their lives, for this palimpsest’, drawing inspiration from a trip Tuarrah took to Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam where she became fascinated with the idea that mistakes sometimes remain visible in paintings, despite attempts at correcting them.

“As canvasses get painted over and revisions are made, traces of those alterations remain. Even if the changes are invisible to the naked eye, we scan the paintings with our fancy tools and learn about the history of the work. What stories are hiding under those layers? In music, we have the option to re-record over the tape and not leave a trace. This is a song for the mistakes,” -

’Palimpsest’ is satisfying, soothing and shrouded in mystery where its appeal remains unaltered, even after multiple listens.
