KAWALA – ‘Animals’

KAWALA go down an evocative road to kick off a major year for the North London outfit with the release of their new single ‘Animals’.

It has been a meteoric rise for this five-piece, starting from teenagers right up to now, on the verge of releasing their new self-titled EP, their first major release since signing to Virgin EMI with more music to come in the spring which shows there is no signs of slowing down.

Spring is expected to be busy, with their biggest headline tour date across Europe and UK as well as a coveted support slot on Bombay Bicycle Club’s European dates. Their upcoming EP is an accumulation of the band’s strongest material to date, but ‘Animals’ certainly takes a left turn.

KAWLWA’S distinctive sound is distilled, choosing to combine chiming melodies with a pulsing bassline, the lyrics are quite the opposite to the infectious beat as ‘Animals’ tackles the telling of a toxic relationship.

The band see the song as a reference to the “empowerment” of escaping a toxic relationship and see the contrast of “floaty” verses and “punchy” choruses as the perfect way to get that message across. ‘Animals’ is an excellent addition to a growing, differing roster and stands KAWALA in good stead for what is shaping up to be a monumental year.

‘Animals’ are available now on all major streaming platforms and KAWALA will play at the Café V lese in Prague on April 19th.
