Lauran Hibberd – 'Boy Bye'

Lauran Hibberd is back. Satirical and bold as ever she returns with new single ‘Boy Bye’.

Understated verses ride on a subdued bassline and gloomy guitar lines that make Lauran’s bitter vocals sound almost a little resentful – ‘Boy Bye’ showcases a darker side to her usually so bubbly and fun-filled sound. “‘Boy Bye’ IS co-dependency, it has a scarily obsessive nature about it and is based on the need to ‘feed’ someone to keep them around,” Lauran says about the song. “I sort of battle with myself throughout the whole track, the same way you would in your brain when stuff like this happens and you try and justify it to yourself.” But while the verses are strikingly plain, it’s the chorus that hits home. Bold and anthemic with roaring guitars that perfectly match her angry vocals, Lauran has crafted yet another empowering slacker pop banger. She adds: “There’s an odd strength in it though, and I think it’s noticing it and being able to say it out loud that gives it that balls to the wall sort of ‘get lost’ momentum. Also, BYE BOYSSSS!!!!”

Born out of a lockdown session with producer Suzy Shinn, ‘Boy Bye’ is the first teaser for new material and promises a new era of exciting, anthemic Slacker Pop.
