LACES - 'they say' (feat. FLAVIA)

With the help of some of her friends, rising singer songwriter Jessica Vaughn, aka LACES, speaks out about sexual assault on striking new single ‘they say’.

A soulful piano ballad, ‘they say’ lives in an intimately emotive soundscape that leaves the spotlight to Jessica’s disarming vocals. Though vulnerable, there is strength in her voice that is directly reflected in her poignant lyricism. “When it hurts, I rise up. When I fall, I stand up. I try every minute ‘cause that’s what I am living” she sings, speaking for countless of assault survivors navigating their healing process.

“‘they say’ is a song about the process of living through trauma in a country that often asks you to smile through it and forget it,” Jessica says about the track, adding: “Being a survivor isn’t a choice, it’s the next step after you’ve been painted a victim. Trauma changes you, but together we won’t let it break us.” And she’s not alone. In the course of the song, LACES is joined by three of her friends: FLAVIA, BELLSAINT and Amanda Brown – three extraordinary women whose unshakable vocals give ‘they say’ a sense of community.

‘they say’ is a cry against the status quo as well as a roadmap to recovery. Soft and gentle while fiercely empowering, it allows survivors everywhere to feel seen no matter where they are in their own journeys.
