Jade Bird – 'Headstart'
Following the overwhelming success of her self-titled debut album, Jade Bird shares a punchy new single ‘Headstart’.
Cool and confident, ‘Headstart’ talks about the early stages of a relationship - The ever so frustrating “they like me, they like me not” phase when no one is quite so sure what’s going on. Wrapped into bouncy beats and energetic guitars that lead into a soaring chorus, the track is classic Jade Bird: a stunning fusion of heartfelt folk and hook heavy pop melodies. But, in contrast to the serene introspection of debut ‘Jade Bird’, ‘Headstart’ showcases a more blunt and playful side to her sound as Jade’s roaring vocals get straight to the point. "’Headstart’ came out of a trip I made to upstate New York at the beginning of the year,” she explains. “It’s quite a light-hearted song, about liking someone who just can’t see the signs, and releasing it feels like a way to give a bit of joy to the end of the year. It feels like community to me, and it makes me want to sing again."
‘Headstart’ is a god sent. Laced with promises of exciting new material to look forward to in the new year, it’s the perfect way to end 2020 on a high note.
