Maddi Jones - 'Dust'

Maddi Jones dangles her listener over the edge of darkness on grungy alt rock single, ‘Dust’.

19 year old Chicago native Maddi Jones conjures a storm of gritty alt rock influences on bleak, swirling single, ‘Dust’. Jones’ vocal channels a dark 90s rock melancholia. Her lyrical delivery is matter-of fact as she contemplates the end of a relationship and losing contact with someone who was once so important: "There was so much of us, now it's all just dust."

'Dust’ is driven by a cacophony of grimy rock textures seeing looped guitar and drum rhythms set a tight and stable driving rhythm to the seductive angst in Jones’ vocal. The bridge of the song breaks away from a standard 4/4 time signature leading up to a tantalising Smashing Pumpkins inspired guitar solo in the latter half of the track. The solo smoothly feeds into the final chorus / outro which is filled with heavy low ascending octaves that captures the destructive and despairing nature of the track’s lyrical theme.

Dust is taken from Jones’ new three track ‘Beg For Me’ EP. ‘Beg For Me’ and sits besides the brooding single ‘The East I l Left’ and high energy, playful single, ‘Beg For Me’.
