Erika Wester - 'Nightingale'

New Jersey singer-songwriter Erika Wester shares a slice of sweet melancholy on current single, ‘Nightingale’.

If you’re looking for polished pop, Erika Wester is not for you. There’s a raw, vintage appeal to Wester’s lofi sound that casts a spotlight on her as a singer-songwriter with real substance. There’s no two ways about it, ‘Nightingale’ is a sad bop for sure. However, uncomplicated, soft guitar lines and Wester’s dulcet vocal melody allow the song to feel much lighter than the loneliness and sorrow in its lyrical theme:

”It’s about feeling lost and isolated. The literal lyrics come from realizing how hard I was on myself in my earlier years, instead of allowing myself to make mistakes, learn, and grow.”

‘Nightingale’ was written in December 2019, during what Wester describes as “a sort of crossroads in my life. I was on the verge of a breakup, and was unsure where I wanted my life to go”. As the track develops, it shivers with wintery, dreamy tones and airy vocal fillers that sees its spread its wings and gently soar towards its subdued ending. A bleak yet bewitching story of sadness and self-reflection, ‘Nightingale’ is available now on all platforms.
