The Band Explains: Loveblind - 'War Planets'

We chat to Wyatt Parkins from dark wave/ shoegaze group Loveblind about their riveting visuals for thrilling industrial single, ‘War Planets’.

Where was the video for 'War Planets' filmed?
Some of the footage is stock footage and the rest was filmed in various locations around the world since we are not all from the same area. The footage was then edited, effects applied and colour grading added to make it seem like it was all filmed together. I believe I spent roughly 100 hours just on the editing. All in all I am very happy with it.

How does the video connect with the song?
For me the song always had a futuristic Bladerunner vibe to it and I wanted to reflect that in the video.

Can you tell us about the ideas/themes/imagery used?
This is technically the second video for this song. The first video was very much in the Bladerunner style and attempted to tell a similar story. However there were two problems; it didn’t fit in with the aesthetic of the other 9 videos from the album and there was so much more I had envisioned for it but just didn't have enough footage to accomplish it. The alternative was the capture the vibe and essence of something like that without trying to make a fan-made Bladerunner short film. In the end I felt like that was accomplished.

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
No message really, we just wanted something aesthetically pleasing and fun to watch. I feel that the most important aspect for a music video is to capture the essence of the song. As long as you have done that and the footage adds to the experience in some way, then you are good to go.
