The Band Explains: We Three - 'Machine'

We Three speaks to us about smashing things up in rebellion of societal pressures and social norms in their The Office inspired, parodical visuals for ,‘Machine’, which spreads the message to live uniquely.

Where was the video for ‘Machine’ filmed?
The video was filmed in an office space. We and our team literally rented it when it was between people leasing it. We found it and asked if we could have three days. Everything you see in the video was brought in and staged by us and our team.

How does the video connect with the song?
Sometimes people will feel like they don't fit in, we like to say "create your own box because being unique is the coolest thing." We wanted to do something that expressed the anxiety of feeling controlled or trapped in something you don't want to be in. It goes for any box whether its social norms, your job, how you were raised, or basically anything. It's a big metaphor for breaking out of your box.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
In the spots where there was a big thing that was broken we would rehearse up until the actual moment of smashing. So, other than the practice we had one chance to smash things. There were a lot of moments where we had to smash things a few times, like the big computers. As you can imagine filming this was so much fun.

Could you tell us about the ideas/themes/imagery used?
Well, the whole video definitely has some tips of the hat to the show The Office. We wanted to get into a space where we weren't familiar with the setting. The biggest theme was breaking out of the box and going your own way.

What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
We hope people will be entertained and laugh. The lyrics are about something serious but we wanted to keep it lighthearted so that people could laugh and get a bit of a release from feeling trapped in their particular box.
