Let us introduce you to Orpine - the newest signing to record label Heist Or Hit. The duo have just released their single ‘Sondern’, the first track to be taken from their full length album ‘Grown UnGrown’ - which is due out in May. The band took a moment to talk to us about the release and how it feels to be part of the Heist or Hit family.

So, your track ‘Sondern’ is out now, can you tell us what the track is about?
Oliver: Sondern is a song about grief and defeat. It was one of the last songs we wrote for the record, right around the time of the initial Brexit deadline. I was exploring the feeling that people around me didn’t hold the same vision for the future or understanding of the present that I did and how it was to feel at odds with the country I was born in.

It sees you signing with Heist Or Hit, how does it feel to be part of their family?
Oliver: It’s humbling to be welcomed into the fold of such a warm and dedicated team. Mick, Martin and Pat are true champions of independent music who hold the needs of their artists paramount. We feel lucky.

The track was produced by Jonathan Coddington, who has worked with the likes of The Magic Gang and Joana Gruesome, how did that partnership come about?
Oliver: I’ve known Jonny since we were 10 years old! He has been the foremost person in my musical development and one of the finest friends a person could ask for. I can’t imagine him not being involved.

How did you come together as a band?
Eleanor: A few summers ago, I was sitting on a long train ride, dreaming of playing music after some time without it. I was thinking how the one person I could imagine doing a new thing with lived hundreds of miles away. I decided distance didn’t have to stop us, so I messaged Oliver, who I’d not spoken to for about 3 years, to ask if he’d maybe feel like trying to write some songs together, somehow. His ambition ended up taking my casual idea into recording an album together… and here we are!

What or where is Greenman Swaler? What is it’s link to your music?
Oliver: Greenman is a studio some of my friends built a few years ago. It’s in a barn on our friend Martin’s farm in the Yorkshire Dales, near to where I grew up. It’s a beautiful place that’s always open to visit and be creative. I feel incredibly lucky to have access to somewhere like that and grateful to Martin and his family for their support over the years.

Now the track is out there, what are your plans for the next few months?
Eleanor: We can’t wait to start playing shows now - we’re putting together a live band at the moment and we’ll be out on the road as soon as we can!
