Along with the announcement of a forthcoming album, Australian artist Mild Minds returns with a new single, WALLS, which features BOATS. We caught up with him to get the scoop.

Who are your top three musical inspirations?
David Bowie
Jamie xx
Floating Points

Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I once saw a snippet from a non narrative visual documentary that looked like Samsara (2011) but I’m not sure that it was. I’ve been searching for it ever since.
That film was a huge inspiration because it reminded me to see the beauty in every day scenes, as well as admire the achievements of humanity.

What city do you find the most inspiring?
Tokyo

Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Maybe Elon Musk, but also in a time like this, I find anyone who can find the humour in things inspiring.
We really need to stop looking for the worst in each other.

What are the key inspirations behind the track?
Boats (the vocalist) and I wanted to have a dichotomous meaning behind the track. I was focused on the Walls that we build for ourselves and interpersonally, he was focused on the political side, both the current border wall and in the metaphoric sense.

How would you like to inspire people?
As cheesy as it sounds, I want to inspire people to live life to the fullest.
To never end up in a position where they’re saying ‘i wish I had of..’
We all have such a short time here, quit, flip it, do whatever it takes to stay interested.
