Canadian outfit Scenic Route to Alaska speak to us about their surreal, dreamscape music video for, ‘Daydreaming’, which explores the themes of self discovery and acceptance.

Where was the video for 'Daydreaming' filmed?
Vancouver, BC

How does the video connect with the song?
The song is lovely connected to the song in the sense that it is about dreaming. I’ve had it in my mind to do a dream within a dream within a dream video and it seemed to work well with the lyrics and tone of the song.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?

Nothing too significant. It was a blast to shoot - many people on the crew said it was one of the most fun they have had on set. The scary guy with a gas mask was played by myself. The visibility was extremely poor and it was hard to breath. After a few times sprinting in the mask I noticed that there was black dust covering my teeth. Considering it’s an actual antique mask from WWii it was pretty disgusting haha.

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?

There is theme of self discovery and acceptance in the story for sure. At first the character isn’t sure who he is, tries to harm himself and eventually accepts himself. There are some more well thought out themes, but I’ll let you come up with your own interpretations.

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
Don’t be afraid of who you really are and that self acceptance can be a blissful experience. Also don’t let your dreams discourage you from following them.
