The Artist Explains: Jasmïn - 'Running Away'
Singer-songwriter and producer Jasmïn speaks to us about her freeing and feel-good visuals for her chill indie rnb single ‘Running Away’, taken from her new EP ‘Bloom’.
Where was the video for 'Running Away' filmed?
The video was shot in different spots in Paris and its suburban area.
How does the video connect with the song?
The video, just like the song, expresses the search for an escape which is symbolised by the partying but also by the wings. I wanted to demonstrate that having fun is a great thing, but it can also be a way to run away from our problems. I also wanted to show that our minds are often running and all over the place, shown through the constant movement and dance.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
Yes, of course! On the day of the shoot, a huge transportation strike was going on in Paris as well as the “Gilets Jaunes”, making the shoot a little complicated. It was also extremely cold that day, which resulted up in me spending the night in the hospital which meant postponing the second day of the shoot. On a more positive note, the production team was amazing and the dancers were so much fun, we had a really great time on set, which I think you can tell through the video!
Can you tell us about the ideas/themes/imagery used?
The main idea was to show a group of young people after a voguing ball wandering around early morning in Paris. We wanted to show their euphoria and their friendship but also symbolise their search for freedom by the car ride and by the costumes they're wearing. The wings are one of the most important elements of the video as I end up flying up into the sky.
Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
The message behind the video and song is that we’re all looking for happiness and peace of mind though sometimes we try to run away from it. Life is a ride and full of experiences that lead to self-reflection in order to grow into your true and higher self.
