Afonso - 'Luz'

‘Luz’ is a song that focuses on self-analysis. “As the years go by, I realise I don’t want to stay the same,” Afonso’s voice serenades.  It is the second single from Portuguese artist Afonso, whose soul and jazz influences are prominent in this single.‘Luz’ means light in Portuguese, which is Afonso’s mother tongue. His vocals glide silkily across this retro-sounding track. There are heartfelt chords,  groovy percussion and wave-like harps and strings all contributing to this easy, hypnotic sound. 

The harps and strings add a glorious touch and helps ‘Luz’ sound retro while maintaining a contemporary feel. 

Afonso has created this track with the idea of being by the seashore but, when listening to ‘Luz’ my mind conjures up images being in a room bathed in sunlight.
