Inspired #90 - Núria Graham
Núria Graham blends a beautiful mix of dark lo-fi pop with her album ‘Marjorie’, she took a moment to talk us through the inspiration for the release.
Who are you top three musical inspirations?
Bjork (specially the album Debut), it was one of the first records I’ve ever listened, we had a cassette in the car when I was very little and it has been an enormous influence to me. Lou Reed, we had a cassette of the magician in the car too and I was captivated by his way of narrating things. And Stereolab, one of my favourite bands, so hard to describe and a big fan of Laetitia Sadier’s lyrics and voice.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I am a big fan of Jim Jarmusch, so, any of his films. The first time I saw Night on Earth it blew my mind! I love the photography in his films.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
I’d have to say Barcelona because it’s the city where I live and people and my friends are my biggest inspiration. Dublin and Ireland in general has inspired my last record a lot.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
It’s difficult to only choose 1 person. My friends are my biggest inspiration.I always say this: my friends are my culture! but If I had to choose an artist, it would be Joni Mitchell.
What were your inspirations when writing the track?
My biggest inspiraton has been Marjorie, my late grandmother who I never met. Lately I’ve been learning a lot of stories from a past I’ve never lived and I wanted to understand some things about myself and my family.
How would you like to inspire people?
The same way as people inspire me,. If I can make people feel something, that’s it! Sharing your feelings and personal life is difficult but once the record is out, the songs become something independent, they have a life outside of you, and all the personal stories you are telling become kind of universal. I think this is magic!
