The Band Explains: Brother. - 'Oxidate'

Utah indie alternative band Brother. speak to us about their quirky music video for ‘Oxidate’ which spreads the message that there is someone out there for everyone.

Where was the video filmed?
The video was filmed in Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.

How does the video connect with the song?
The video follows the narrative mostly from the first line of the first verse saying “hard life, tough break. Wouldn’t have it any other way.” The rolling person was meant to depict someone who feels different than everyone else for one reason or another.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
The whole thing was actually extremely funny to film. Nathan, our guitarist, who is very shy by nature, was nervous about having people watching him rolling. He ended up getting very motion sick and breaking his watch.

Can you tell us about the ideas/themes/imagery used?

We tried to make it more monochromatic and melodramatic in the sense that the roller was sick of who he was. The rolling was used to convey that he was different than everyone else and maybe this was by choice. He felt lonely and disheartened at the thought that he might be the only one like this.

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
The video is a message saying that there is someone out there for everyone. And this does not mean romance necessarily but that they are others with similar interest, backgrounds and ideas as you.
